Serial entrepreneur Salvatore Palella founded intra-urban transportation company Helbiz in 2016, at the age of 29, with a mission to solve the first- and last-mile transportation problem of cities around the world through an innovative and scalable transportation rental platform designed for the sharing economy. Headquartered in New York, Helbiz has a strategic footprint in growing markets with offices in New York, Milan, Madrid, Belgrade and Singapore, and operational teams around the world.
Under Palella's leadership as founder and CEO, Helbiz's innovative HelbizGO electric scooter service is operating in Milan and Malaga, with pilot programs in Italy in Rome, Turin, Florence and Pisa; as well as pilot programs in Spain in Madrid, Marbella, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Palma de Mallorca. The Company also has pilot programs underway in Portugal, Greece, France, Singapore and Georgia. Helbiz is established as the market leader in Italy, with national scale and local expertise. Palella's vision for this data-driven micromobility transportation business includes a focus on rider safety, the ability to reduce Earth's carbon footprint, and an approach that works in concert with city leaders regarding regulations and deployment.
Originally from Acireale, Italy, Palella began his career in the fast food industry in the United Kingdom, and then moved to Milan at age 17 to study at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. At the age of 19, he founded his first business, a company that specialized in the production and distribution of vending machines for fresh-squeezed orange juice.
